Introduction

The Basic Internet Foundation is dedicated to providing safe and empowering internet access for all, including children. We recognize our responsibility to create a protective environment for children who interact with our services and within our project areas. This Child Protection Policy establishes the fundamental principles and procedures to safeguard children from harm, abuse, and exploitation.

Commitment to Child Safety

Zero Tolerance:

The Foundation has a zero-tolerance policy towards any form of child abuse, exploitation, or neglect.

Primary Consideration:

The best interests of the child shall be a primary consideration in all decisions and actions affecting children.

Safe Programming and Content

Age-Appropriate Access: Where feasible, we will explore and implement measures to provide age-appropriate content and create safer browsing environments for children.

Awareness and Education: We will integrate online safety education into our digital literacy programs, teaching children, parents, and caregivers how to recognize and avoid online risks.

Code of Conduct for Personnel and Partners

All staff, volunteers, and partners are required to adhere to a strict Code of Conduct, which includes:

Appropriate Boundaries: Maintaining appropriate physical and digital boundaries with children at all times.
Prohibited Behavior: Never using language or behavior that is inappropriate, harassing, sexually suggestive, abusive, or demeaning towards a child.
Reporting Obligation: Immediately reporting any concerns or allegations of child abuse or exploitation.

Recruitment and Screening

Safer Recruitment: The Foundation will implement rigorous recruitment procedures for staff and volunteers whose roles involve direct contact with children, including background checks where legally permissible and practical.

Reporting and Response Procedures

Designated Safeguarding Focal Point: A designated person(s) will be appointed to manage child protection concerns.
Clear Reporting Pathway: A clear, confidential, and safe procedure will be established for anyone (staff, community member, child) to report concerns.
Immediate Action: Any allegation or concern about a child's safety will be treated with utmost seriousness and will be acted upon immediately, following a predefined response plan that prioritizes the child's welfare and involves relevant local authorities as required.

Awareness and Training

Mandatory Training: All personnel will receive mandatory training on this Child Protection Policy and their responsibilities under it.
Community Awareness: We will work to raise awareness in communities about child protection principles and online safety.
